Black Melanoid Axolotl

Black Melanoid axolotls are dark gray-to-black axolotls with a matte appearance and little or no reflective iridophore shine. They are one of the main morphs people mean when searching for a “black axolotl.”

Black Melanoid vs. Wild Type

Wild Type axolotls often show reflective flecks and a shiny eye ring. Melanoids generally lack those reflective features and can appear more uniformly dark.
