Why do some axolotls cost more?
Size, age, morph, known sex and individual appearance affect price. Standard listings offer juvenile, sub-adult and adult options when available. Check the selected size rather than comparing only the starting price.
Compare the current prices for juvenile, sub-adult and adult options on each product listing. Availability varies by size and sex. Our axolotl size and feeding guide explains the size terms used in our listings.
Rare mosaic animals are priced individually and may cost substantially more than common morphs. When you want to choose a particular animal, browse Named Axolotls and review the listing’s exact-animal photos, details and availability. To compare appearances, use our axolotl morphs and colors guide.
How much does an axolotl tank setup cost?
Your equipment budget depends on what you already own, the aquarium you choose and whether your room needs active cooling. Before buying the animal, budget for:
- An aquarium with adequate floor space.
- Gentle filtration and any required air pump or tubing.
- A liquid water test kit, conditioner and thermometer.
- Smooth hides and suitable aquarium furnishings.
- Food and ongoing water-care supplies.
- A cooling fan or appropriately sized chiller if needed.
Compare current prices in our axolotl habitat setup collection and follow the tank setup checklist. If cooling is part of your budget, read how to set up an axolotl aquarium chiller.
Shipping and local pickup
Shipping adds to the delivered cost. Available rates and any qualifying promotions depend on your destination and order contents, and are shown at checkout. Hawaii uses a separate Pet Depot route, and wholesale and partner orders have their own shipping arrangements.
Live axolotls are scheduled for Monday–Wednesday overnight shipment when weather, animal readiness and carrier conditions allow. Review the shipping and live-arrival policy before ordering. Eligible local customers can select pickup in Riverdale, Utah.
Ongoing costs after purchase
Plan for food, water conditioner, testing supplies, water changes and electricity for filtration or cooling. How much you spend depends on the animal, your aquarium and your home’s temperature. Compare our axolotl foods and read what axolotls eat before selecting supplies.
