Nova – True Split GFP Mosaic Axolotl

Meet Nova, one of the rarest axolotls you'll ever encounter. A True Split Mosaic is a naturally occurring genetic phenomenon in which two developing embryos fuse during the earliest stages of development, creating a single axolotl with two genetically distinct halves. The result is a breathtaking, perfectly divided appearance that can never be intentionally reproduced. Every true split mosaic is completely unique, making each one a genuine one-of-a-kind animal.

What makes Nova even more extraordinary is the presence of the Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) gene. Under normal lighting, Nova's striking split coloration is impressive on its own. Under blue or UV lighting, the GFP-expressing tissues illuminate with a brilliant emerald-green glow, creating an unforgettable display that highlights this already exceptional animal. GFP is a fluorescent trait—it glows only under the appropriate light source and does not glow on its own in darkness.

Because true split mosaics occur entirely by chance and cannot be selectively bred, they represent one of the most coveted morphs in the axolotl hobby. Combined with GFP fluorescence, Nova is not just an axolotl—it's a living work of art and a centerpiece for any serious collector.

Highlights

  • 🧬 Naturally occurring genetic phenomenon—not a selectively bred morph
  • 💚 GFP Positive – fluoresces bright green under blue or UV light
  • 🎨 Perfectly divided coloration with each half displaying its own unique genetics
  • ⭐ Truly one-of-a-kind—no two split mosaics are ever identical

Owning Nova means owning an axolotl that few people in the world will ever have the opportunity to see, let alone call their own.
