Anubias (Anubias barteri) is one of the hardiest and most beginner-friendly freshwater aquarium plants available. Known for its thick, dark green leaves and slow, steady growth, Anubias is an excellent choice for aquariums, shrimp tanks, and axolotl habitats. Its durable leaves resist damage and provide natural resting places and shelter for aquatic life.
Unlike many aquarium plants, Anubias should be attached to rocks, driftwood, or other hardscape rather than buried in the substrate. Burying the rhizome can cause the plant to rot. With minimal care requirements and the ability to thrive in low-light aquariums, Anubias is perfect for hobbyists of all experience levels.
Its slow growth means less frequent trimming and maintenance while still contributing to a beautiful, natural aquascape.
Important: Do not bury the rhizome in the substrate. Instead, attach the plant to driftwood, rocks, or other aquarium decorations using aquarium-safe glue, fishing line, or thread until it naturally anchors itself.
Anubias is one of the most versatile and forgiving aquarium plants available. Its beautiful foliage, minimal care requirements, and compatibility with a wide variety of freshwater species make it an excellent addition to nearly any planted aquarium or axolotl habitat.
